Frequently Asked Questions

What is a group break?

A simple answer would be opening a hobby related product such as a box of trading cards where a group has predetermined how it will be divided after it is opened. There are a variety of ways to do this depending on what is being opened and the preference of the breaker. Some of the more popular breaking styles include random team, pick your team (PYT), random division, or hit draft. Breaks can be a fun way to chase after big hits at a fraction of the price of purchasing whole boxes or cases. PYT breaks can help those who only collect specific players and/or teams to narrow their search and go after those that they specifically want. Breaking is also a great way to keep the hobby fun as many breakers look to build a community of collectors that can buy/sell/trade with each other, or even just chat in general, in addition to the value of participating in the actual breaks.

How do I sign (my kid) up?

Sign-ups are at the Marc-Down Entertainment booth prior to the break. Announcements will be made during the morning hours to help you find it.

How much do the kids breaks cost?

The Kid’s Breaks at the Hofstra/White Plains shows are sponsored by JP Sports/Rock Solid Promotions and are free to enter, limit of one spot per child per day.

What is in the break?

That will vary from show to show, generally we look to break current trading card product that allows for every spot to be able to go home with something. Generally, Saturdays we run a random team baseball break and Sundays might be football, basketball, or WWE.

How do the kids breaks work at the show?

The breaks are tentatively scheduled for 11:30 AM to avoid running into times where lines for autograph guests are forming, outside factors have pushed them back on occasion. Announcements are made throughout the morning so as new families gain entrance to the show they can get signed up and there is at least a 15-minute warning to when the break will start - so even if you are at the opposite end of the show, you should have enough time to complete any transaction you are making and head over. Spot selection can depend on the break, for example a random team break we would put representation for all teams in a ‘hat’ and have the kids pull one out to determine their team. The box will be opened, and I will show off the cards in front of everyone in attendance. After the break is over, it usually takes about 20 minutes to get the cards sorted so feel free to browse the booth or swing by later in the day to pick up your cards.

Do I have to be at the break to get my cards?

Being at the break is preferred but if you need to go in line for an autograph or aren’t able to make it back in time anyone who is signed up won’t lose their spot. You do need to attend the show to be able to pick your cards up after the break.
